Manila:The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced a "no work, no pay" policy for November 1st and 2nd, designated as All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, respectively. These dates are recognized as special non-working days.
According to Philippines News Agency, the advisory, signed by Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, specifies that the policy will affect employees who choose not to work on these days unless there is a company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement stating otherwise.
Employees who do work on these days are entitled to additional compensation. For the first eight hours of work, they will receive an additional 30 percent of their basic wage, totaling 130 percent of their daily rate. Overtime work beyond eight hours will earn them an extra 30 percent on their special day hourly rate. This is calculated by multiplying the basic wage hourly rate by 130 percent twice and then by the number of overtime hours worked.
Furthermore, if these special non-working days coincide with an employee's rest day, working the first eight hours entitles them to a 50 percent premium on their basic wage, amounting to 150 percent of their daily rate. Overtime on such a rest-day special non-working day requires an additional 30 percent premium on the hourly rate, calculated by multiplying the basic wage hourly rate by 150 percent, then by 130 percent, and finally by the number of overtime hours.
The Catholic community traditionally observes All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day by visiting the graves of their deceased loved ones in cemeteries and columbarium.
