Negros oriental: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is preparing to distribute financial assistance to 907 beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program in Negros Oriental. This initiative is scheduled for August 8, with Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma attending the payouts in Canlaon City and Tanjay City.
According to Philippines News Agency, Raizza Phoebe Rubia, the DOLE-Negros Oriental information officer, confirmed that the beneficiaries in Canlaon City include internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have undergone training by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), while the Tanjay City beneficiaries are sugarcane workers. In Canlaon City, 695 beneficiaries from the regular TUPAD program and 112 TESDA trainees will each receive cash grants of PHP5,010. The TESDA training encompasses skills such as bread and pastry production, cookery, dressmaking, and shielded metal arc welding.
The efforts in Canlaon City aim to support those affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon. As part of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program, the department will also provide PHP2.2 million worth of farm inputs to the Pula Potato Vegetable Farmers Association in Canlaon City.
In Tanjay City, 100 sugar workers identified as TUPAD beneficiaries will receive PHP5,010 each. Additionally, Secretary Laguesma will attend the inauguration of the newly constructed Sugar Workers Training Center in Tanjay City.
The DOLE chief is also scheduled to meet with Canlaon City Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas and Tanjay City Mayor Pepe Orlino, along with the Board of Directors of the District Tripartite Council-Central Azucarera de Bais and the Universal Sugar Milling Corporation.
