Manila: Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum, Jr. is advocating anticipatory governance, saying this would not just boost preparedness but also help improve lives. In a news release, Solidum cited several concerns where anticipatory governance is crucial, such as the increasing commodity prices.

According to Philippines News Agency, Solidum emphasized the need for science-based, technology-driven solutions to strengthen food production, improve supply chain efficiency, and anticipate disruptions before they escalate into crises. Addressing food security requires foresight-driven action, he noted, urging investment in precision agriculture, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, remote sensing and satellite technologies, as well as smart logistics and supply-chain systems.

Data-driven foresight is equally essential for sustainable energy, Solidum stated, to forecast future demands and diversify energy sources. He advocated for increased investment in renewable energy technologies, smart grids, expansive energy storage systems, and energy-efficient mobility infrastructures.

Finally, Solidum highlighted how anticipatory governance could enhance resilience by leveraging digital innovation to understand risks, focusing on prevention and preparedness, and utilizing forecasts and predictive analytics. "In the end, our impact is not measured by the technologies we deploy, but by the people whose lives are made safer, better, and more secure because of them," he added.
