Manila: Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. on Wednesday called on scientists and researchers to think boldly and collaborate generously.
According to Philippines News Agency, in his speech during the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) annual scientific meeting, Solidum urged the delegates to engage openly and continue working together to harness the power of science, technology, and innovation (STI). The NAST scientific meeting serves as an avenue for the members to exchange ideas, hold dialogues, and explore possible collaboration.
"I am confident that the discussions and recommendations from this gathering will help shape policies, guide investments, and inspire future scientific endeavors," Solidum said. The DOST chief emphasized that addressing challenges, whether about health, climate change, or digital transformation, requires STI as connected solutions.
Solidum assured that the DOST remains committed to ensuring that scientific knowledge and technological advances translate into tangible and lasting benefits for every Filipino. He stressed that science must not end with discovery, but rather improve lives, protect the people, preserve resources, strengthen institutions, and create opportunities.
He stated that the agency continues to invest in human capital development, strengthen research infrastructure, expand technology transfer, and build innovation ecosystems to empower regions and communities. "People at the DOST are pushing to make STI more responsive, more accessible, and more inclusive, ensuring that the benefits of innovation reach not only our major centers of growth but also the communities and sectors that need them most," he said.
Solidum also highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration among the academe, research institutions, industry, local governments, and communities. "Innovation flourishes when knowledge is shared, expertise is connected, and partnerships are built around solving real-world problems," he added.
