Antique: Antique's biggest secondary school in terms of population is now in the process of identifying learners or children at risk for appropriate intervention. Antique National School Principal Roger Jomolo said the initiative is part of their efforts to ensure a safe and motivating learning environment for their nearly 7,000 learners.
According to Philippines News Agency, as part of their school policy for this school year, learners, upon enrollment, were asked to answer a questionnaire on their family background, vices, interests, and environment, among others. Jomolo stated that those found to be at risk or in need of guidance will be referred to the school's guidance counselor.
Republic Act 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 defines children at risk as those below 18 years old who are 'vulnerable to and at risk of committing criminal offenses because of personal, family and social circumstances.' Jomolo added that on Thursday, a student values formation symposium will be held in coordination with the San Jose de Buenavista Municipal Police Station for learners to be aware of anti-bullying and other laws about the juvenile justice system.
