Ilocos Region: The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is encouraging its scholars studying information technology (IT) in the Ilocos Region to participate in an on-the-job training initiative known as Project LODI (League of Developers Initiatives).
According to Philippines News Agency, DOST-Ilocos Region IT Services Management head Justin Madrid announced in a forum organized by the Philippine Information Agency that students interested in the program should submit a letter of intent to Director Teresita Tabaog. Madrid explained that the program would evaluate interns to determine their eligibility for the training at DOST, where they will gain experience in programming, project design, broadcasting, and more.
Lorma Colleges Inc, Saint Louis College La Union, and Pangasinan State University are collaborating with DOST to support this initiative. The on-the-job training is anticipated to enhance students' programming skills and prepare them for successful careers. Additionally, it may provide opportunities for Filipino IT professionals to join the government workforce, aiding the country's technological progress.
DOST mentioned that Project LODI is initially concentrating on its scholars enrolled in IT courses, with potential plans for expansion. The project includes key elements such as Programming Conventions and Standards, an IT library of components and assets, and a Standard Software Development Life Cycle. It also aims to tackle the issue faced by students regarding inadequate or irrelevant training that does not foster their technical skill development.
