Capas: The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will turn over a locally designed automated weapon system to the Department of National Defense (DND) for use by the Philippine Army (PA) later this week. The turnover ceremony for the Controller Battle-Ready Armament (COBRA) is scheduled for Thursday at Camp O' Donnel in Capas, Tarlac, as announced by PA spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala on Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the COBRA is a product of research and development conducted by the DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) and is prepared for adoption by the PA. The COBRA is a locally designed gun mount capable of carrying .50 caliber machine guns, which can be installed in the PA's armored vehicles.
On November 23, 2022, the PA and the DOST-MIRDC formalized an agreement regarding the development of COBRA. This initiative underscores the DOST's commitment to supporting the PA in enhancing its Self-Reliant Defense Program.
