Manila: The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Wednesday refuted circulating online posts alleging that it commissioned or influenced the publication of a magazine cover and feature story involving Secretary Christina Frasco. The DOT emphasized that it had no involvement with the magazine in question.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DOT clarified that Philippine Topics is a privately run publication and is not officially associated with the department. The DOT underscored that it did not contract, pay, commission, or direct the publication to produce the cover or story. The content, including the choice of images and text, was entirely at the magazine's editorial discretion.
The department also stated that it did not supply any photographs, guidance, or funding for the feature. Furthermore, the DOT specified that the magazine's coverage of activities related to World Expo Osaka 2025 was undertaken solely by the magazine's editorial team and was not coordinated with the department.
Additionally, the DOT addressed claims made by an individual photographer, asserting that it did not supply the questioned image nor endorse any photograph for use in the magazine. The department denied any implication that it chose or favored the use of an image of the Secretary over destination-focused materials, labeling such claims as false and without factual basis.
The agency expressed serious concern over the spread of false claims, emphasizing that misrepresenting official actions or implying improper use of public funds erodes public trust. The Department of Tourism reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the ethical promotion of Philippine tourism while condemning the propagation of false and misleading information.
