DOT Sees Cruise Tourism Boost as Ship Visits Siargao

Siargao: The Swan Hellenic Minerva, a cruise ship on its maiden voyage in Asia, made a significant stop at Siargao Island on Monday, marking a notable event in the region's tourism sector. The cruise ship, carrying around 152 foreign passengers, arrived at noon on Corregidor Island in Dapa town, Surigao del Norte. The Department of Tourism in the Caraga Region (DOT-13), alongside Dapa Mayor Elizabeth Matugas and other town officials, warmly welcomed the visitors as they disembarked on Corregidor Island.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOT-13 Regional Director Ivonnie Dumadag stated that the arrival of the Swan Hellenic Minerva is a milestone for the region's tourism industry. The visit not only highlights the cultural and natural beauty of the destination but also opens up opportunities for local businesses and communities. The passengers spent four hours exploring the island before setting sail for Bohol, their subsequent destination.

Dumadag emphasized that DOT-13 is committed to supporting cruise tourism as a burgeoning aspect of the region's offerings, aiming to establish the area as a competitive and sustainable cruise destination in the Philippines. She expressed optimism that the growth of cruise tourism would help strategically position the region to promote initiatives that protect the island's ecological integrity. Dumadag assured that the agency is actively collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure that promotional efforts align with the goal of preserving Siargao Island's natural environment.
