Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is advocating for the establishment of direct flights between the Philippines and Israel. This initiative is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s strategy to enhance international air connectivity and fortify bilateral relationships with other nations.

According to Philippines News Agency, acting DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez has revealed that discussions are underway with Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines, Dana Kursh, to facilitate these direct flights. Lopez emphasized the department's commitment to collaborating with Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant agencies to expedite the launch of these flights.

Lopez assured that efforts are being made to establish the direct flight within the year or as soon as possible. During a recent meeting, Ambassador Kursh expressed the Israeli government's support for the initiative, highlighting the interest of Israeli citizens in exploring the Philippines' prominent tourist attractions.

Kursh stated that the direct flights present significant business opportunities for both nations. She encouraged both Israelis and Filipinos to explore these prospects, noting that the potential is vast.

Ambassador Mendiola pointed out that the direct flights could pave the way for economic opportunities, emphasizing the importance of mutual investments and projects. She expressed enthusiasm for the potential interactions that these flights could facilitate, aiming for an expedited implementation.

Furthermore, EL AL Airlines, Israel's national carrier, has announced plans to commence non-stop or direct flights between Israel and the Philippines by 2027. The airline anticipates launching departures from Israel in March 2027, with flights from Manila still pending regulatory approvals.
