Manila: Families affected by the combined effects of tropical cyclone Basyang (international name: Penha) and the shear line have reached 182,352 while houses damaged have totaled 1,373, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its update Tuesday. The affected families are equivalent to 645,612 persons residing in 1,285 barangays in Region 6 (Western Visayas), Negros Island Region, 7 (Central Visayas), 8 (Eastern Visayas), 10 (Northern Mindanao), 11 (Davao Region), and Caraga.
According to Philippines News Agency, as of this posting, 16,693 families are being sheltered in 438 evacuation centers, while another 7,284 families are being aided outside. Meanwhile, of the houses damaged, 1,203 were classified as partially damaged and 170 as totally damaged. Of the 12 deaths reported, seven are now confirmed -- six for Region 10 and one for Caraga. The NDRRMC also confirmed 36 injuries due to Basyang, all recorded in Region 10.
