Angeles city: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the National Housing Authority (NHA) are collaborating to build the Philippines' first medium-rise relocation project in Angeles City, Pampanga. This initiative aims to provide new homes for residents impacted by the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez stated that this relocation project aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure that those displaced by transportation projects receive adequate and decent living environments. Lopez emphasized the President's commitment to relocating affected residents to homes equipped with basic facilities like water and electricity.

The project will comprise eight four-story buildings on a 2.6-hectare site in Barangay Cutud, Angeles City. Each building will house 94 units, accommodating a total of 621 families currently residing as informal settlers along the Philippine National Railways (PNR) right-of-way. The relocation complex, valued at PHP1.2 million per unit, will feature essential community amenities, including a daycare center, rural health unit, and elementary school.

Construction is scheduled to commence in March 2026, with an expected completion date in April 2027. Last week, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Right-of-Way and Site Acquisition (ROWSA) IC Calaguas and NHA's John Bernardo inspected the proposed site.

This project is part of a broader government initiative to relocate approximately 2,640 informal settler families affected by the NSCR's northern segment. Additional relocation sites are planned for San Fernando, Pampanga, and Calumpit, Bulacan.

Pampanga 1st District Representative Carmelo 'Pogi' Lazatin Jr. and Mayor Carmelo "Jon" Lazatin II have expressed support for the project, pledging to expedite social preparations for relocation and right-of-way undertakings in Angeles City.
