Manila: Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has directed an investigation into the disappearance and subsequent recovery of a passenger's jewelry box at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3. Dizon tasked the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) with conducting the investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon emphasized the importance of passenger safety and security as per President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive. The swift recovery and return of the missing jewelry to passenger Kimberly Nakamura were highlighted as a priority. Nakamura had acknowledged the efforts of the NAIA Terminal 3 Airport Police Department (APD) and Screening and Surveillance Division (SSD) in a social media post, following the discovery of her missing jewelry after arriving in Singapore from Manila on June 28.
The MIAA reported that the jewelry box was initially located through closed-circuit television footage, having been left unattended at Gate 104 and subsequently handled by over ten airline and security personnel. The staff failed to report the item to the lost and found section despite multiple opportunities.
The NAIA Terminal 3 APD and SSD successfully recovered all items from the jewelry box. The statement noted the dedication of Airport Police Officers Casey San Juan and Frelyn Leda, along with CCTV analysts, who pursued every lead and questioned involved parties to achieve full recovery. Although Nakamura opted not to file formal charges, the MIAA urged all airlines and security agencies associated with the personnel involved to take disciplinary measures against those responsible.
