DoTr Completes Pre-Feasibility Study for Mindanao Railway Project Phase 3

Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday revealed that the pre-feasibility study of the Phase 3 Mindanao Railway Project (MRP3) has been completed.

According to Philippines News Agency, during the Philippine Economic Briefing organized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Planning and Development Office Director Crinezza Veil Mendoza stated that the DOTr is prepared with a full feasibility study. This is a significant step towards enhancing public transportation and improving regional connectivity across Mindanao.

"This would cover 54.8 kilometers that would connect CDO (Cagayan de Oro), the municipalities of Laguindingan and Villanueva, the seaports and the airport, and would make the movements of people more efficient," Mendoza explained.

Mendoza mentioned that the modern transportation plan is expected to serve approximately 150,000 passengers and create 200,000 jobs in its passenger and freight rail connections in Misamis Oriental.

She added that the agency is incorporating transit-oriented development locations, which are mixed-use areas near the transit stations aimed at promoting a live-work and play environment.

The transportation modernization system plan for MRP3 also includes the private-public partnership of the Laguindingan International Airport with Aboitiz InfraCapital.
