Roxas City: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced the completion of two significant infrastructure projects in Capiz, totaling close to PHP100 million. Both projects were executed by the Capiz First District Engineering Office.
According to Philippines News Agency, District Engineer Cecil Lawrence Cruz reported to DPWH Regional Director Sanny Boy Oropel about the completion of the provincial cultural and sports center at Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, costing PHP85 million, and a farm-to-mill road (FMR) in Panitan town, valued at PHP12.7 million.
The newly constructed cultural and sports center is set to serve as a premier venue for sports competitions, cultural performances, and community gatherings. It features a multi-purpose hall and an indoor sports arena with ample seating, making it suitable for large audiences and positioning it as a central hub for major regional events.
"This landmark facility embodies our dedication to enhancing public spaces that empower local artists and athletes. We believe it will play a vital role in shaping the future of Capiz by promoting active lifestyles and preserving the province's rich cultural heritage," Oropel noted in a statement.
The FMR project, which connects Barangay Balatucan and Barangay Timpas, includes a 556.5-lineal meter concrete road and 152.88-meter stone masonry. Oropel highlighted how the project would benefit local farmers by facilitating the efficient transportation of produce, reducing delays and costs previously caused by poor road conditions.
Prior to the road improvement, farmers and residents faced challenges with narrow dirt-and-gravel roads, which often became impassable during the rainy season. Oropel emphasized that the project enhances agricultural productivity and provides more convenient access to essential services and trade within the municipality.
