Muntinlupa: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing a new facility to better serve and support the residents of The Haven for Women, a residential care facility in Alabang, Muntinlupa City that provides temporary shelter to women who are victims of gender-based violence.
According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Manuel Bonoan stated that the civil works include a single-storey multipurpose building project measuring 290 square meters, designed to provide additional living space for the Department of Social Welfare and Development-run shelter. The new building has been allocated PHP9.65 million for Phase 1 under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). This allocation is in addition to previously completed construction and rehabilitation projects at The Haven, with a combined allocation of PHP29.34 million from 2022 to 2024.
Bonoan expressed hopes that once completed, the new PWD (persons with disabilities)-friendly building, featuring improved ventilation, lighting, and insulation, will serve as a comfortable living space that promotes healing, growth, and empowerment. He also mentioned that the facility may be used as an evacuation center during disasters and other emergencies.
The building improvement project, implemented by the DPWH Las Pi±as-Muntinlupa District Engineering Office, highlights the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s commitment to upholding women's rights and creating safe environments, especially for women vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.
