Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), in coordination with the Quezon City government, continues to monitor the Culiat Bridge II after it was opened to light vehicles on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the July 11 fire under the bridge has damaged critical parts of the structure. Secretary Vince Dizon said during the inspection and partial opening of the structure that an assessment will be conducted once these have been replaced.

"Once those are replaced, the steel components and other concrete sections underneath still need to be assessed; that is the current course of action," the DPWH chief said.

On Monday, the bridge was opened to motorists following initial repairs and successful load testing by the DPWH. Meanwhile, the Department said heavy vehicles may use alternative routes while it conducts the necessary assessments.
