DPWH Finalizes P48.9-M Flood Control Project in Hermosa

Hermosa: Residents and farmlands are now secured against the risks of flooding and erosion with the completion of a flood control project in Hermosa, Bataan, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, in his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Region 3 (Central Luzon) Director Roseller Tolentino said the improved riverbank protection in Barangay Cataning amounted to PHP48.9 million.

The project involved the construction of 400 linear meters of concrete slope protection along the Hermosa River. Tolentino emphasized that the undertaking aims to strengthen the stability of the riverbank system and control erosion, which causes siltation by maintaining the large capacity of water flowing along the channel.

He added that aside from protecting residents, the project will also safeguard their livelihood. "This project will improve water flow by keeping the river channel clear and preventing blockages caused by eroded materials, thereby protecting nearby residences and farmlands from being destroyed," Tolentino stated.

The flood control structure was implemented by the Bataan 1st District Engineering Office.
