Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is intensifying the implementation of flood control projects in Metro Manila as Secretary Vince Dizon continues to inspect flood-prone areas in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to Philippines News Agency, on Friday, Dizon inspected drainage declogging operations along Taft Avenue, in front of De La Salle University (DLSU). In a statement, Dizon emphasized that the old drainage system along a section of Taft Avenue in Malate is set to be replaced, aiming to resolve the decades-long issue of severe flooding during heavy rains that often leaves students, commuters, and motorists stranded.

Dizon announced that the continuation of the drainage improvement project in front of DLSU will be funded in 2027. This initiative is in response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to prioritize the installation of high-capacity drainage systems in Metro Manila's flood-prone areas to accelerate floodwater flow.

On Thursday, Dizon and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno inspected Espa±a Boulevard, where several flood mitigation measures are set to be implemented starting in September, in a bid to lessen flooding in the area.
