Drainage System Upgrade Along Bonifacio Drive Nears Completion Ahead of Schedule

Manila: The drainage system improvement project along Bonifacio Drive in Manila is set to be completed by Friday, weeks ahead of its target completion date. This development is expected to alleviate flooding and improve traffic flow in the area, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon.

According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Dizon announced the progress during an inspection of flood control projects with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso. "We're happy to report that this is the last portion. We put three days' worth of concrete for faster drying. By Friday, we will open this, we are 100 percent done," he stated. The project's original completion target was set for June.

In addition to the Bonifacio Drive project, Dizon inspected the newly completed 200-meter drainage expansion along Taft Avenue northbound, a project that had faced years of delays. The upgrade involved replacing old 0.61-meter drainage pipes with larger 1.5-meter pipes, aimed at reducing flooding from TM Kalaw to Ayala Boulevard.

Mayor Domagoso expressed gratitude towards the Marcos administration for prioritizing flood control projects, especially with the impending rainy season. "We thank the government and the DPWH for their quick action to address our city's flood problem," he said.

The DPWH also highlighted President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s efforts to intensify the implementation of Oplan Kontra Baha (OKB), a program designed to ensure access to major waterways and prevent severe flooding. The program is being expanded to flood-prone areas in the Visayas and Mindanao, including Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, and Maguindanao.
