Quezon city: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced their intention to file administrative cases against a member of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Highway Patrol Group (HPG) after an incident where the officer was caught on video shoving a rider off his motorcycle, resulting in a traffic incident.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, stated that the video, which went viral on social media, highlighted irresponsible and dangerous behavior by the HPG officer. Lacanilao emphasized that no form of violence, road bullying, or irresponsible driving is acceptable on the roads, and no one is exempt from the law.

In response to the incident, the LTO issued a show-cause order against the HPG officer, requiring him to submit an explanation as to why he should not face administrative charges. The charges include Reckless Driving, Duty of Driver in Case of an Accident, Use of Number Plates, and being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

The officer has been instructed to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) as part of the ongoing investigation. Additionally, the officer's license has been preventively suspended for 90 days, and his motorcycle has been placed on alarm to prevent any transactions with the LTO.

The LTO took the opportunity to remind the public about the importance of responsibility, calmness, and discipline while driving. The agency reiterated its commitment to upholding traffic laws and intensifying its campaign against reckless driving and other violations that threaten public safety.

In a related development, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) confirmed the arrest of the QCPD HPG officer involved in the incident. The officer is currently undergoing a medical checkup and is expected to face both administrative and criminal charges.

The incident was brought to light through a video uploaded on Facebook by Vincent Cayanes, which shows a motorcycle rider being pushed off his bike by an HPG officer who approached from behind at speed.
