DSWD-10 Clarifies ‘Unified Pension’ Still a Bill, Warns Against Scams

Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Northern Mindanao (DSWD-10) on Tuesday warned the public against falling for scams about the proposed Universal Social Pension for Senior Citizens (USPSC).

According to Philippines News Agency, versions of the USPSC are pending at the committee levels of both Senate and House of Representatives.

"I urge everyone not to believe anything that is posted online, for that matter, and only get the right information from legitimate social media accounts or websites," DSWD-10 Director Jamen said in a news release.

Jamen said the bill seeks to amend Republic Act No. 7432 or the Senior Citizens Act of 1992 to expand the coverage of the current Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens.

Once passed, it will provide a monthly pension to all senior citizens regardless of economic status.

Under the current law, only indigent senior citizens are entitled to a PHP1,000 monthly stipend.

DSWD-10 issued the statement following an increase in inquiries on how to register and avail of the program.
