Manila: A total of 177,214 family food packs and relief supplies worth over PHP154.2 million have been pre-positioned by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao Region (DSWD-11) for families affected by flash flooding here due to the southwest monsoon (habagat).

According to Philippines News Agency, the pre-positioned resources include food packs worth PHP104.7 million, non-food items valued at PHP42.3 million, and other supplies amounting to PHP7 million. In a report Monday, the agency said it is fully prepared to respond to the needs of the 214 affected families, or 928 individuals, from three affected villages.

DSWD-11 also prepared PHP2.94 million in standby funds, assuring the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance while closely coordinating with local government units and monitoring the evolving situation. "Six evacuation centers have been opened, sheltering 74 families or 383 individuals," DSWD-11 said. No houses were reported damaged, but relief operations continue to support displaced residents.

Meanwhile, PPP Partylist, led by Rep. Harold Duterte, extended relief assistance to families affected by the recent flooding in San Vicente, Barangay Talomo. The relief operation included the distribution of gallons of potable drinking water and hygiene kits to affected residents. To address the disruption of the community's water supply, the group also delivered approximately 4,500 liters of clean water using a fire truck, ensuring families' access to water for drinking and for daily use.

"During times of calamity, you can truly see how strong Dabawenyos are. It is also when the spirit of bayanihan (unity) shines, as the government, private organizations, volunteers, and ordinary citizens come together to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the flooding," Duterte said.
