DSWD Allocates PHP1.1 Million for Tara Basa Tutors and Workers

Legazpi city: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has disbursed PHP1.1 million in cash incentives to 600 college student tutors participating in the "Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program" (TBTP). This program aims to enhance literacy and provide financial aid while offering valuable work experience to the students involved.

According to Philippines News Agency, the student participants received amounts between PHP1,975 and PHP2,075, aligning with the regional minimum wage, as a token of appreciation for their contributions to the program's capacity-building efforts. Mariel Rodrigo, who tutors at Otavi Elementary School, expressed her gratitude, highlighting how the assistance will help with her school projects and other financial obligations.

Daniele Gojar, a Youth Development Worker at Lohang Elementary School, also shared his appreciation for the incentives, noting the support it provides for both school and household expenses.

The TBTP initiative allows college students to serve as tutors and youth development workers, thereby contributing to improving the literacy rate in the country. In return, they gain invaluable work experience and financial support.
