DSWD and Local Government Units Collaborate to Enhance KALAHI-CIDSS Implementation.

Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) convened local chief executives and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing the implementation of the Kapitbisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program. According to Philippines News Agency, KALAHI-CIDSS Deputy National Program Manager for Support, Didith Bosoen, emphasized the importance of gathering insights from local executives to refine the agency's processes. This initiative comes as the current major funding portfolio nears its end, with plans to transition to the 2025 Panahon ng Pagkilos, focusing on community resilience. DSWD Western Visayas Director Arwin Razo highlighted the crucial role of local chief executives in integrating KALAHI-CIDSS into their development plans. He stressed the need for their support to accelerate implementation and acknowledged their influence, especially in decision-making and establishing local ownership through contributions to dev elopment projects. Bosoen reported that since 2003, KALAHI-CIDSS has empowered communities across the country, completing 91,385 sub-projects in 25,479 barangays in 82 provinces. With funding of approximately PHP104.8 billion from both foreign-assisted projects and local sources, the program has benefited 24.39 million households nationwide. The top community-proposed projects have focused on essential services such as roads, water systems, daycare centers, electrification, flood control, and more. As the program's largest funding phase concludes, efforts will shift to its successor, Panahon ng Pagkilos, aiming to enhance resilience in 884 poor municipalities vulnerable to disasters.
