Muntinlupa: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is targeting PHP30 million in sales from the 10-day IMPAKABSAT regional fair being held at Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa from November 15 to 24. DTI-Cordillera Director Juliet Lucas shared in an interview that this year’s sales target is considered conservative, especially when compared to last year’s sales figure of PHP36 million.
According to Philippines News Agency, Director Lucas highlighted the historical significance and success of the IMPAKABSAT fair, mentioning that the highest sales record was PHP66 million in 2011. The fair, which has been running for 32 years, is seen as a beneficial promotion for regional sales. IMPAKABSAT, an Ilocano term for ‘brotherhood,’ is an acronym representing the provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region, namely Ifugao, Mountain Province, Abra, Kalinga, Baguio and Benguet, and Apayao.
The initiative started in 1992 with the aim of supporting small manufacturers in the region to enhance their products
and expand their market reach in Metro Manila. The fair showcases a wide array of products including furniture made from hardwood and bamboo, handwoven apparel, decorative items, kitchenware, metal works, and food products like sweets, vinegar, wine, preserves, and coffee. These products are crafted by micro and small manufacturers who receive support from various government offices in product development, permitting, packaging, and business capacity development.
Lucas emphasized the diversity of items available, assuring the public of their quality and suitability as holiday gifts. In addition to the physical fair, since 2023, DTI-CAR has managed a Facebook page offering IMPAKABSAT items year-round. The online platform was developed to sustain product promotion and has successfully attracted both domestic and international customers.
