DSWD-Bicol Deploys Ready-to-Eat Food Packs at Regional Seaports

Bicol: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has strategically positioned ready-to-eat food packs at seaports across the Bicol Region. This proactive measure is aimed at addressing potential passenger stranding due to weather-related disruptions.

According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio announced that the latest shipment includes 500 ready-to-eat food packs allocated at the ports in Masbate. Laurio emphasized the importance of swift action during calamities, stating, "During times of calamity, we cannot afford to delay providing food and necessities to our countrymen. Therefore, DSWD Bicol will ensure that assistance is delivered immediately when needed."

Laurio further explained that the food packs are strategically stored at various seaports and warehouses throughout Bicol, ensuring rapid distribution to internally displaced persons and stranded passengers. In total, 12,667 ready-to-eat food packs have been prepositioned in the provinces of Albay, Masbate, and Camarines Sur, representing an investment of PHP9,939,563.

The Bicol Region is frequently affected by typhoons, making these preparations crucial for swift humanitarian response during adverse weather events.
