Cebu: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has dispatched more than 203,000 family food packs as the initial wave of support to 12 local government units affected by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Cebu. The Visayas Disaster Resource Center has efficiently produced and sent these food packs within five days to address the immediate needs of the communities impacted by the disaster.

According to Philippines News Agency, the recipients of the food packs include the LGUs of Daanbantayan, Bogo City, Medellin, San Remigio, Tabogon, Madridejos, Bantayan, Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Tabuelan, and Sta. Fe, with quantities varying based on requests from each LGU. This distribution is part of ongoing disaster operations, and the DSWD assures continued support until all affected individuals receive necessary assistance.

In addition to the family food packs, the DSWD has distributed ready-to-eat food, sanitary kits, and non-food items. Mobile kitchens have been deployed to provide hot meals in Bogo City, San Remigio, Medellin, and Daanbantayan, with more expected to arrive soon. The DSWD 7 is also providing modular tents to support temporary housing efforts in coordination with local government units.

Efforts to create women and child-friendly spaces in evacuation centers are underway, providing psycho-social support to those affected. The DSWD is also offering funeral assistance to families of casualties and medical assistance to the injured through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

The DSWD is preparing to launch the Emergency Cash Transfer program in collaboration with LGUs to provide financial aid for recovery and rebuilding efforts. The initiative aims to support families as they navigate the aftermath of the earthquake.
