DSWD Distributes Thousands of Food Packs to Families in Ilocos Norte

Ilocos norte: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Ilocos Region has successfully distributed 4,198 family food packs (FFPs) to families experiencing economic challenges in the area.

According to Philippines News Agency, Rochelle Gajes from the provincial social welfare and development office stated that the beneficiaries are residents of Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin, Paoay, and Batac City. Gajes highlighted that these families have been significantly impacted by the recent oil price hikes, which have affected their livelihoods.

Each FFP is designed to support a family of five for two days. In addition to the food distribution, local government units in Ilocos Norte are working with national agencies to support public utility drivers, operators, commuters, students, farmers, and fishers to mitigate the effects of rising fuel prices. Despite recent price reductions, efforts to provide relief continue.

Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos is spearheading efforts to provide fuel subsidies to tricycle drivers and farmers. Each beneficiary has received PHP2,500 from provincial government funds. Furthermore, other municipalities in the province have mobilized government-owned buses and collaborated with public utility jeepneys to offer free rides to commuters during peak hours.
