Kathmandu: Flash floods and landslides across the Himalayan border region of Nepal and China's autonomous region of Tibet have resulted in the deaths of at least 780 people, with more than 2,500 individuals still missing, including hundreds of tourists. The casualty toll is anticipated to rise. Nepal's disaster agency initially reported on Friday that 598 foreigners, which could include tourists and foreign workers, remain unaccounted for. Meanwhile, Chinese officials have identified 261 foreigners missing in the region. The Nepal Tourism Board stated that among the missing are 149 Nepali tourists, with the disaster agency providing a slightly lower figure of 127. The situation remains dire for many foreign nationals, with 85 US citizens reported missing by the State Department, which also confirmed that nine Americans have been evacuated. In contrast, the number of Australians unaccounted for rose to 41, as confirmed by Assistant Immigration Minister Matt Thistlethwaite. Other affected nationalities include 33 UK citizens, 29 Latvians, and 25 Canadians, according to figures from the Nepal Tourism Board.
