Rodriguez: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended funeral assistance to the family of two siblings who died in a rockslide triggered by heavy rains brought by tropical cyclone Maymay and the southwest monsoon in Rodriguez, Rizal. The tragedy struck Barangay San Rafael, claiming the lives of 22-year-old Urilyn Sison and her 20-year-old brother, Jessie.
According to Philippines News Agency, following the incident, social workers from the DSWD Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU)-Rizal conducted a home visit to assess the needs of the surviving members of the Sison family. The DSWD, through its Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Office in Rizal, provided PHP20,000 in funeral assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program to help cover burial expenses.
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) stated that the agency immediately deployed social workers to assist the bereaved family. "Nakikiramay po ang DSWD sa pamilya ng dalawang nasawi sa insidenteng ito. Agad pong kumilos ang ating mga social workers upang personal na kumustahin ang kalagayan ng pamilya at maibigay ang agarang tulong na kinakailangan nila sa gitna ng kanilang pagdadalamhati (The DSWD sympathizes with the family of the two victims in this incident. Our social workers immediately responded to personally assess the situation of the family and to deliver quick assistance needed amid their grief)," Dumlao said in a statement.
Dumlao also highlighted that Urilyn left behind two young children, aged 3 and 1, emphasizing the need for continued government assistance. She assured that the DSWD would continue monitoring the condition of the Sison family, particularly the welfare of the two children, to determine what additional interventions may be provided.
As of 6 a.m. on Friday, the DSWD had provided PHP3.574 million worth of assistance to families affected by back-to-back tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay and the southwest monsoon. The assistance included 3,739 family food packs, 266 non-food items, and 634 ready-to-eat food boxes distributed to affected communities nationwide.
