Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is strongly warning the public against suspicious individuals or groups offering cash assistance through private messages while claiming to have a supposed 'backer' inside the DSWD. In a statement on Thursday, Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao clarified that DSWD programs and services are never processed through private social media accounts, personal messages, or unauthorized intermediaries, and also does not operate under any 'backer system.'

According to Philippines News Agency, all forms of assistance provided by the department follow established procedures to ensure fairness and transparency. Dumlao emphasized, "Hindi po pinahihintulutan ng DSWD ang anumang paggamit ng backer o personal connection sa loob para po makakuha o mapabilis ang proseso ng pag-claim ng cash assistance (The DSWD does not allow any use of backers or inside personal connection to avail or expedite the process of claiming cash assistance)."

This warning follows reports received by the DSWD about fraudulent individuals sending private messages to unsuspecting netizens, promising inclusion in the list of beneficiaries in exchange for a percentage cut and their personal information. Dumlao warned that engaging with these unscrupulous individuals puts the public at risk of fraud and identity theft.

She further reminded the public that all announcements, advisories, and updates regarding its programs are released exclusively through its official social media pages and website (www.dswd.gov.ph). The DSWD calls on the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious messages, and rely only on verified sources to ensure that government assistance reaches those in need.
