Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has expressed its deepest sympathies to the families affected by the tragic shooting at Banga National High School in Banga, South Cotabato. The incident, which occurred on Friday, resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a teacher, while those injured are currently receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals.

According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-Soccsksargen (Field Office 12) Regional Director Loreto Cabaya Jr. visited the scene to coordinate emergency response efforts with the local government unit (LGU) of Banga and other relevant agencies. DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao stated in a news release that the department is committed to assisting the affected families and the community of Banga.

Social workers have been deployed on the ground to work closely with local authorities, providing support to the affected individuals and their families. The DSWD recognizes the sudden nature of the incident and is focused on helping families cope with the trauma and grief resulting from the unexpected tragedy occurring within a school environment.

To ensure ongoing support, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian has mandated the assignment of one social worker per family of the deceased and hospitalized individuals. This initiative is aimed at providing continuous guidance and assistance for all their needs.

In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., government agencies have been mobilized to provide comprehensive assistance and humanitarian care to all affected individuals and families.
