Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reported offering PHP7.846 million in humanitarian aid to families impacted by Tropical Depression Wilma. The support comes as part of a concerted effort to assist those affected by the recent weather disturbance.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DSWD's Disaster Response Operations Management, Information and Communication (DROMIC) report indicates that 4,157 families are currently residing in evacuation centers due to the effects of Wilma. These displaced individuals are primarily located in Romblon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Masbate, and various regions across Western, Central, and Eastern Visayas.
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) noted that DSWD field offices are actively coordinating with local government units (LGUs) to evaluate the needs of the affected families and individuals. The field offices have been distributing family food packs (FFPs), ready-to-eat food (RTEFs) boxes, non-food items (NFIs), and other emergency relief services.
Despite the year drawing to a close, Dumlao assured that the DSWD is prepared to support LGUs with additional resources. She emphasized the department's readiness to respond to the needs of those affected by not only Wilma but also previous calamities, with sufficient supplies and ongoing production of family food packs.
Dumlao stated that the department's proactive measures align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to swiftly provide food and essential supplies to families impacted by disasters. The DSWD has also extended assistance to individuals and families stranded at ports due to the weather conditions, providing RTEF boxes to approximately 1,900 passengers in Nasipit Port in Agusan Del Norte, Matnog Port in Albay, and ports in Castilla, Pilar, and Bulan in Sorsogon.
Reaffirming the DSWD's commitment, Dumlao pledged to maintain relief operations and support recovery efforts, ensuring that no Filipino is left behind in times of calamity.
