Bicol: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has recorded a total of 495 families or 2,462 individuals affected by Tropical Storm Crising.
According to Philippines News Agency, Claudio Villareal, chief of DSWD-5's Disaster Response Management Division, stated that these individuals hail from 21 barangays across the provinces of Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, and Masbate.
Villareal reported that 11 families or 42 individuals have been displaced due to the storm. In Masbate province, nine families or 33 persons are currently taking temporary shelter in two evacuation centers, while two families or nine individuals are staying with relatives or friends.
The DSWD has implemented preparedness measures that include prepositioning food and non-food relief items in strategic locations, activating logistics plans, and ensuring rapid deployment capabilities. Villareal emphasized that two mobile kitchens, a Mobile Command Center, and water filtration units are on standby, ready for immediate deployment to offer on-ground support to affected communities.
Additionally, Villareal mentioned that 34 local government units in the region have suspended classes. Through Regional Director Norman Laurio, DSWD-5 is enhancing coordination with local government units to mitigate the impact of the typhoon through organized and coordinated actions.
DSWD-5 has prepared 254,192 family food packs in warehouses across the region, as part of the response plan for Crising. Laurio noted that the total value of available relief resources has reached PHP273 million, including food items ready for distribution.
