Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed a total of 1,278,276 family food packs (FFPs) as part of its ongoing relief operations for communities affected by the successive weather disturbances in July. These efforts aim to support regions hit by Tropical Cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, as well as the southwest monsoon.
According to Philippines News Agency, Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD's Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) stated that these provisions, along with necessary non-food items, have been distributed to 18 regions. In particular, 386,455 food boxes were allocated to Central Luzon, which experienced severe flooding. Dumlao emphasized that many areas remain submerged, with numerous individuals still residing in evacuation centers, highlighting the ongoing need for assistance facilitated by the agency's Field Offices.
The Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) reported that 18,050 families, or 66,843 individuals, are currently sheltered in 695 evacuation centers across regions including the National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, and Cagayan Valley, among others. To assist stranded passengers during the sea travel suspension, over 5,000 ready-to-eat food boxes have been utilized.
Financial aid under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program has been deployed, particularly aiding families affected by fatalities during the heavy rains and flooding. Additionally, the DSWD is conducting psychosocial activities in evacuation centers, focusing on child-friendly initiatives to provide some relief and comfort to affected families and children, in collaboration with local government units.
