DSWD’s AICS Program Receives P5 Billion Boost for Crisis Assistance.

Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to receive an additional PHP5 billion for its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. This move comes as part of the government's efforts to address the needs of communities severely impacted by a series of typhoons and other natural disasters. According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of the Special Allotment Release Order and the corresponding Notice of Cash Allocation for the AICS program on November 15. Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman emphasized that the additional funding is crucial for helping individuals significantly affected by recent typhoons to recover and rebuild. Pangandaman stated, "Through this, we are sustaining support for vulnerable and marginalized communities. We are bridging the resource gap required for extensive disaster recovery and sustained support throughout the nation," as noted in a DBM release on Monday. The AICS pr ogram is a vital part of DSWD's services, offering essential support such as medical, burial, transportation, education, and food assistance, along with financial aid for other urgent needs of individuals and families in crisis. The additional funds are sourced from the special provisions in the 2024 General Appropriations Act concerning the use of Unprogrammed Appropriations. These funds can be utilized for essential infrastructure and social programs, including financial aid for needy citizens, depending on the availability of new or excess revenue collections, the DBM explained.
