Davao: The Department of Trade and Industry-Davao (DTI-11) reminded consumers on Wednesday to ensure that Christmas lights and similar decorations bear the Philippine Standard (PS) mark or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker, emphasizing the importance of product safety and quality this holiday season. In a press briefing here, DTI-11 Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Dexter Bermudez said the agency has begun monitoring seasonal items.
According to Philippines News Agency, Bermudez advised, "When purchasing Christmas lights, make sure they have PS and ICC stickers. Read the label carefully and understand its intended use," noting that some Christmas lights are specifically designed for indoor or outdoor use. The PS mark or ICC sticker certifies that a product has passed safety standards and helps prevent fire hazards. Products without these markings may not have undergone the necessary quality checks.
"We have to be cautious and ensure proper usage for safety. If you have concerns about these products, including pricing, you may contact DTI through our Facebook page or visit any Negosyo Center," Bermudez said.
In preparation for the holiday season, he said DTI is coordinating with manufacturers regarding the prices of commonly purchased holiday goods such as cheese, mayonnaise, queso de bola, macaroni, pasta, tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, fruit cocktail, and all-purpose cream. "We distribute the price guide to retailers as a reference for consumers," Bermudez added.
DTI releases the guide annually to help consumers find affordable holiday items. The guide provides price ranges for various products and encourages consumers to compare prices, buy from trusted stores, inspect items carefully, and report any cases of overpricing.
