DTI Chief Highlights Compliance of Taguig City Market with SRPs

Taguig city: Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cristina Roque on Thursday affirmed that businesses in Taguig City People's Market are adhering to the government's suggested retail prices (SRPs).

According to Philippines News Agency, this announcement followed a price monitoring activity conducted by teams from the DTI and the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the said market. The initiative aimed to ensure that prices of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) remain low and affordable for consumers.

The monitoring covered items such as canned goods, processed milk, coffee, noodles, and condiments, alongside items in the wet market. The inspection also included two Timbangan ng Bayan public weighing scales to ensure accuracy.

Roque, who also chairs the National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC), noted that the prices of these items in the Taguig City People's Market were lower by PHP0.05 to PHP10.05 than the suggested retail price. She emphasized the importance of this monitoring, stating, "Our monitoring is non-negotiable, especially when we see positive outcomes like this. The DTI is closely coordinating with manufacturers to ensure there will be no price increases on BNPCs."

She further added that the DTI is stepping up its price monitoring efforts to ensure that affordable goods remain accessible to every Filipino household, particularly as the holiday season approaches.
