Manila: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday announced that there will be no price increase for basic necessities and prime commodities until May 10, 2026.

According to Philippines News Agency, the items that will remain under suggested retail prices (SRP) include canned sardines, processed milk, bread, coffee, locally manufactured instant noodles, bottled water, laundry soap, candles, salt, canned meat, condiments, and toilet soap. This measure ensures that these essential goods remain accessible to consumers despite the ongoing Middle East conflict.

DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque assured the public that there is no anticipated shortage of supply in the coming weeks, emphasizing that panic buying is unnecessary as supply levels remain adequate. "The DTI is on the ground every day, closely monitoring markets to make sure basic goods are available and prices stay affordable," Roque stated.

The department is actively coordinating with manufacturers and retailers to prevent profiteering and unauthorized price hikes. Consumers are encouraged to report any stores selling above the SRP to ensure fair pricing practices are upheld. These efforts are part of a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to protect consumers during the ongoing international conflict.
