DTI Urges Establishments to Follow Price Guide of School Supplies

Dumaguete: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Oriental is calling on establishments to follow the price guide for school supplies to avoid possible sanctions and penalties.

According to Philippines News Agency, Krystle Jade Bato, DTI-Negros Oriental spokesperson, stated that the distribution of the price guide commenced on Tuesday to major establishments in Dumaguete City ahead of the new school year starting on June 16, 2025. The price guide is a result of an agreement between the DTI and school supply manufacturers and distributors under the Fair Trade Act, aimed at preventing overpricing.

Bato mentioned that the price guide is a tool for consumers to identify stores offering school supplies at reasonable prices. It includes items such as notebooks, writing pads, pencils, ball pens, crayons, erasers, sharpeners, and rulers.

The establishments that have received the price guide so far include Lee Super Plaza, Cang's Inc. Department Store, Robinsons' mall, and Unitop. The DTI plans to distribute the guide to other stores in the days leading up to the school year commencement.

Bato also noted that inspections would be conducted by the DTI before classes begin to ensure compliance with the stipulated price ranges. Establishments found violating the price guide will face investigations by the DTI central office and possible repercussions.
