Manila: Seven stations of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) Busway are set for major improvements this year under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Budget and Management's (DBM) EDSA Busway Station Rehabilitation Project (Rehab). In an interview during an inspection of the EDSA Busway North Avenue Station on Thursday, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said the initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s agenda of pushing for more commuter-centered policies. The project will be done in two phases.
According to Philippines News Agency, Phase 1 of the rehabilitation project will cover upgrades to the Monumento, Bagong Barrio, North Avenue, and Guadalupe stations. Phase 2, on the other hand, will include the construction of two new stations at the Para±aque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and one in Cubao. 'All of these will be finished by next year. Maybe by the middle or the third quarter of next year tapos na (they'll be completed),' Dizon said. Both phases will cost roughly PHP200 million, with the DBM helping to fund the project due to the DOTr's reduced budget for 2025.
Upgrades will include the widening and improvement of station platforms, replacement of sheds and railings, restoration of equipment, and the construction of a guard/janitor and traffic officer station post. In addition, vertical louvers will be installed to provide shade and protection from the sun and elements, tactile paving surfaces to guide blind people, and station name and wayfinding signages, including transit maps and fare matrix guides.
