Antique: A multipurpose cooperative in the capital town of Antique has received a goat multiplier farm valued at PHP3 million from the Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas (DA-WV). This initiative is aimed at providing the province with a reliable source of high-quality goat breeds.
According to Philippines News Agency, DA-WV livestock technician Mark Anthony Untal revealed during an interview that the turnover included the necessary housing, 27 upgraded goat stocks, feeds for one cycle, forage, and various other forms of support. This was formally handed over to the San Jose de Buenavista Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SJMPC) during a ceremony held at Barangay Sido, Sibalom.
The project, a grant from DA-WV, is designed to assist goat farmers who are members of the cooperative, as well as other raisers in the province, by providing access to high-quality goat kids. The upgraded goats, which are classified as breeder goats, are expected to start producing kids by the following month.
Untal elaborated that each breeder goat is anticipated to produce between two to four kids, which is a considerably higher yield compared to non-hybrid goats. An agreement will be established within the cooperative to outline how members and goat-raisers can avail themselves of these goat kids.
Additionally, the DA-WV has supplied Napier grass for planting on the cooperative's three-hectare farm, which will serve as forage for the goats.
