Manila: The next phase of the rehabilitation of Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) will start Tuesday night, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). In an advisory, the DPWH said the scheduled repair works will be from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., Monday to Friday, for asphalt overlaying. On the other hand, asphalt overlaying and concrete reblocking will be conducted from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., Friday to Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the scheduled works will be implemented from Jan. 6 to 11 following the order of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to expedite the renovation of the major highway to make it safer for motorists, commuters, and pedestrians. The repair activities are planned as follows: Asphalt overlaying on the northbound side from Jan. 6 to 11, covering the section from Magallanes to Ayala Underpass, focusing on the 2nd lane to the 5th lane, including the application of a second layer of asphalt.
The rotomilling activities will be carried out on the southbound lanes, with work scheduled from Jan. 6 on the stretch from Scout Mariano to Aurora Boulevard, focusing on the 2nd lane to the 4th lane. Further rotomilling will take place from January 8 to 10 between Vanguard Academy and Kalayaan Flyer, again concentrating on the 2nd lane to the 4th lane. In addition, rotomilling on the northbound lanes will occur on Jan. 7, covering the stretch from Aurora Boulevard to Apelo Cruz, from the 3rd lane to the 5th lane.
Concrete reblocking works on the northbound side are scheduled from Jan. 9 to 12, focusing on the stretch from Roxas Boulevard to Taft Avenue in the 3rd lane. The DPWH has advised motorists to use alternative routes and to take necessary precautions during this period. They also mentioned that an updated schedule of repair works will be issued every week.
The repair works are part of the EDSA rehabilitation project that commenced last month, covering the EDSA Busway lane from Roxas Blvd, Pasay City to Orense in Makati City. Phase 1 of the project was opened to motorists on Tuesday after its completion on Monday.
