Manila: There were fewer cybercrime incidents recorded in 2025, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) said Tuesday, attributing it to improved law enforcement against digital fraud schemes.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PNP-ACG's consolidated records from January 1 to December 4, 2025, showed a substantial reduction in cybercrime incidents across most major scam categories compared to the previous year. This decline reflects the impact of sustained cyber patrolling, digital investigations, and public awareness efforts.

Online selling scams, consistently the most common cybercrime modus, dropped to 1,525 cases in 2025 from 3,025 in 2024, marking a nearly 50-percent decrease year-on-year. Investment-related scams saw a significant reduction from 1,101 cases in 2024 to just 291 in 2025. Similarly, hijacked profile or ID scams decreased from 604 to 183, and vishing cases fell from 589 to just 80.

The PNP noted that while overall cases declined, cybercriminals continued to evolve their tactics in 2025. Cases involving job and task scams, online loan scams, and impersonation scams remained among the top monitored schemes.

Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated, "Hindi titigil ang PNP. Sa 2026, lalo pa nating paiigtingin ang ating anti-cybercrime campaign. Mas pinalalakas natin ang intelligence, ang enforcement, at ang pakikipagtulungan sa iba't ibang ahensya (The PNP will not stop. In 2026, we will further intensify our anti-cybercrime campaign. We are further strengthening intelligence, enforcement, and collaboration with various agencies)." He emphasized that public vigilance remains a critical factor in sustaining gains against cybercrime.
