Manila: The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Monday announced a significant milestone for the eGovPH app, as it recorded over 800 million transactions and 56 million downloads since its launch. This achievement highlights the rapid adoption of the platform among Filipinos.
According to Philippines News Agency, DICT Undersecretary for E-Government David Almirol Jr. noted that the app's usage has increased sevenfold over the past year, surpassing initial expectations. Almirol stated, "The platform is now recording an average of 100,000 daily downloads and has already processed more than 800 million transactions since its launch, surpassing the DICT's original target of 30 million users by 2028."
Almirol highlighted that the DICT's efforts in digitalization align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to make government services more accessible through technology. The app aims to eliminate long queues, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and facilitate quicker and easier transactions with government agencies.
The eGovPH app, developed entirely by DICT personnel, acts as a one-stop platform for government services. It includes features like digital IDs, access to national and local government services, processing of permits and licenses, and lodging complaints, among others. Currently, the app integrates services from more than 1,300 government systems and is one of 28 digital platforms managed by the DICT's e-Government Office.
However, the rapid increase in users has put a strain on the platform's infrastructure, resulting in a five-hour service interruption in April. Almirol explained, "Usage surged significantly. It was like an electrical system being overloaded because demand exceeded our capacity, eventually exhausting our available cloud resources."
To address these challenges, Almirol assured the public that backup systems and redundancy resources have been activated, initially intended for disaster recovery. The DICT is also working closely with the Department of Budget and Management to secure additional funding to support the continued growth of the eGovPH platform.
The eGovPH app, developed under the Marcos administration, was officially launched in January 2024. It is supported by the E-Governance Act or Republic Act 12254, signed by Marcos in September 2025, mandating government agencies to offer their services online and integrate them into eGovPH as a central platform.
