EO for Flood Works Probe Commission Awaits Marcos’ Approval

Pasay city: The executive order (EO) establishing an independent commission to investigate alleged irregularities in flood control projects is poised for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s signature, as confirmed by Malaca±ang on Sunday. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that the proposed commission has undergone a comprehensive evaluation and aims to provide a reliable mechanism for public scrutiny of these anomalies.

According to Philippines News Agency, Bersamin emphasized the importance of the EO in fostering transparency and accountability, expressing confidence that it will be embraced by the public. "We expect that in its final form, the executive order will be welcomed by the people because that is what we are doing, everything for the people," Bersamin remarked during an impromptu interview at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

While Bersamin refrained from revealing further details about the independent commission, he noted that the selection of members remains at the discretion of President Marcos. He also did not confirm whether Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has committed to joining the commission.

The commission's initial focus will be on scrutinizing questionable flood control projects; however, there is potential for its scope to broaden to include other infrastructure projects that have raised public concern.
