Manila: Senate President Francis Escudero concluded the third regular session of the 19th Congress with a message emphasizing unity and gratitude, expressing appreciation to fellow senators and Senate employees for their dedication and urging continued trust and respect across political lines.
According to Philippines News Agency, Escudero delivered his remarks during the sine die adjournment at the Senate plenary, opting for a brief and lighthearted tone. He humorously acknowledged the intense workload faced by the Senate, noting, "Bugbog tayo sa trabaho, bugbog tayo sa labas, bugbog pa rin tayo sa loob (We were battered by work, from the outside, and even from within)."
In his address, Escudero offered warm farewells to his colleagues, thanking them for their contributions and camaraderie. He highlighted Senate Minority Leader Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III's insightful interpellations, acknowledged Senator Nancy Binay's quiet diligence, and expressed gratitude to Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. for his personal advice. Escudero turned emotional when mentioning Senator Grace Poe, admitting he would miss her most, "Not because I need anything from you, but because no one else will nag me."
Escudero also gave special recognition to the Senate secretariat and employees, emphasizing their crucial behind-the-scenes contributions to legislative processes. He urged his colleagues to look beyond political affiliations, stating that senators should be judged by their actions in office rather than their past electoral choices.
Reflecting on his own political journey, Escudero, who previously served in the Senate, became governor of Sorsogon, and returned to national office, chose not to bid farewell to those departing at the end of their terms. Instead, he expressed optimism about future collaborations, saying, "I won't say goodbye. until we meet again. I look forward to working with you in government, in the Senate, and anywhere in the name and in service of the Filipino people."
