Iloilo city: This highly urbanized city showcased the readiness of the local government and stakeholders in responding to the demand of hosting meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibits (MICE) with its three-day MICE VENDEXPO (Vendors Expo) from August 12 to 14. "For three days, we are bringing together event suppliers, service providers, MICE professionals, and business stakeholders to showcase products and services, but more importantly, to build partnerships and create opportunities," Mayor Raisa Tre±as said during the official opening of the event on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Tre±as expressed her disappointment about the reliance on Manila-based suppliers despite Iloilo's promotion as a MICE destination. She emphasized the importance of showcasing local suppliers to bolster the city's status in the industry. "This is a very important milestone in the journey of our city and for Iloilo. I want to showcase all of the suppliers that we have here in Iloilo," Tre±as stated.

Tre±as further highlighted that MICE is not just about hosting events; it is about creating opportunities and bringing people together. She noted that attracting conferences or conventions to Iloilo benefits various sectors including hotels, restaurants, transport providers, event suppliers, creatives, tour operators, and entrepreneurs.

She also pointed out that Iloilo's readiness extends beyond venues and infrastructure. The city's historic landmarks, old houses, traditions, festivals, arts, and stories offer visitors an enriching experience beyond the conference rooms. Tre±as added that food plays a crucial role in bringing people together, creating memories, and providing growth opportunities for local restaurants, food entrepreneurs, farmers, and small businesses.

The expo also included discussions on event planning and MICE marketing. Iloilo City MICE Center Director Lea Lara highlighted the center's venues, facilities, and services, promoting the city as a premier destination for meetings, conferences, and business events.

The expo was organized by the Iloilo City MICE Alliance and the MICE Center, in partnership with the Department of Tourism Region VI, with the support of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority. The event's opening was attended by Tourism Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., and former Senator Franklin Drilon.
