Fair Weather Expected Across Most of Philippines, Heat Index Reaches Danger Levels in Five Locations

Manila: Fair weather is anticipated to persist across a majority of the Philippines, while five specific areas are set to experience dangerously high temperatures due to elevated heat index levels. According to PAGASA, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, weather forecaster Chenel Dominguez reported during the 5 a.m. bulletin that the heat index, which combines relative humidity with air temperature, is expected to peak at 43°C in Sangley Point, Cavite; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Virac, Catanduanes; Dumangas, Iloilo; and La Granja in La Carlota, Negros Occidental. According to Philippine News Agency, A heat index ranging between 42°C and 51°C is considered dangerous, with potential health implications such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Prolonged exposure to these conditions could lead to heatstroke. In Metro Manila, the heat index is forecasted to reach 40°C, particularly at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City and the PAGASA Science Gard en in Quezon City. PAGASA reported no low-pressure areas within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. However, two prevailing weather systems are anticipated to bring rainfall to certain regions. The frontal system affecting extreme Northern Luzon is expected to cause rain over Batanes, Cagayan, and Apayao. Meanwhile, the easterlies affecting other parts of the country could result in scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. These areas could face moderate to heavy rains, leading to possible flash floods or landslides. Dominguez noted, "Fair weather will prevail over the rest of the country. Expect warm weather at noon and the afternoon." She added that isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms may occur, particularly in the afternoon or evening. Northern Luzon will experience moderate winds and moderate coastal waters, while other parts of the country will have light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas.
